Bart Verschuuren
Coach / Personal Trainer
Hi, I’m Bart, I’m excited to work with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. I was once a beginner too and understand what it’s like to feel frustrated, overwhelmed and helpless. So I went about learning practical skills which I believe were integral to being a coach—treat every client individually, outline simple programs towards a functional, realistic and visible result, and remain grounded on what it’s like to walk in as a beginner.
Experience
My early teens were spent training in bodybuilding gyms, using basic equipment and learning lifting form and golden-era training principles. I would read everything on exercise, nutrition and muscles. I knew then a world that involved fitness, longevity, muscle growth and strength would be one I’d be dedicating my life towards. Since then, I’ve evolved as a trainer with a strong understanding of human physiology, client behaviour and disposition of being ‘personal & professional’ as a coach.
If you ask me to demonstrate exercise techniques, I’ll often use animated explanations but still remain competent in my commitment to certified industry practices. I feel comfortable speaking with your GP or any specialist you prefer me to work alongside.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Biomedicine & Human Physiology and BSc (Hons) in Physiology, Pharmacology, Endocrinology & Biochemistry
- Cert IV (Lv. 3, Adv) specialised Older Adults & Children’s Trainer (Blue Card); Exercise in pre- & post-pregnancy; bodyweight & abbreviated training—a hybrid of traditional, functional & time-poor training tactics; and basics of authentic Thai-boxing & boxing, outdoor and powerlifting.
Coaching Philosophy
The motive is to engage, educate, encourage and laugh! Don’t hold back because of beliefs on age or self-imposed limitations—this outlook led me to compete in running events from 5k to marathons to ultra-endurance through to amateur Muay-Thai and HYROX comps. I was raised in the country where ‘picking up the phone’ taught me how to have a conversation and stepping outside taught me physical fitness made outdoor experiences more enjoyable.
