At Teneriffe Athletic Club, we love celebrating the diverse community of individuals who make up our membership. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Clinton Osborne, a founding member, dedicated business owner, and driving force behind The Nut Market—an iconic and local boutique store located in Brisbane’s James St precinct. Let’s dive into our Q&A with Clinton to learn more about his fitness journey at TAC and the story behind his thriving business and amazing products.
The Nut Market: A Local Gem & Success Story
Fourteen years ago, Clinton had a simple idea: to fill pantries with the highest quality, locally sourced, and imported wholefood ingredients. Over time, his family-owned business, The Nut Market, has become an ingrained part of Brisbane’s foodie scene. The Nut Market prides itself on supporting local farmers and offering customers a sustainable shopping experience, with products packaged in eco-friendly, resealable kraft paper bags. Clinton’s dedication to quality and environmental responsibility has made his store a beloved staple in the community. Clinton has been running The Nut Market since the age of 23, and he’s nearing two decades in the business, thanks in large part to the support of Brisbane’s local community.
“We get busier every year, and that’s thanks to the great local community we are all a part of; we all support each other.”
Q: What are your current training goals?
After undergoing disc surgery, my primary goals are to improve mobility and core strength. Having access to a huge space with heaps of equipment at TAC makes it easy to enjoy my time there while working on my recovery.
Q: What's your favourite aspect of training at Teneriffe Athletic club?
The amount of equipment at TAC is perfect. It’s all top quality and easy to use. Since I often train late at night, I love how easy and safe it is to access the gym at any time.
Q: How do you find the atmosphere at TAC?
I love the atmosphere—there are no egos, and I often find myself saying hello to lots of people. It’s a welcoming space no matter what your fitness level is. Funny enough, I even found out that the surgeon who fixed my disc is also a member at TAC. It really is a great community!
Q: How do you balance running a business with staying consistent in your training?
I train with my best mate, Cliffy, who takes no BS and keeps me accountable if I’m feeling lazy. Since Cliffy works shifts and my business schedule is pretty flexible (though 24/7 like most small business owners), we make it work. We often grab a coffee and a treat from Emme Cafe on James St, then walk up to TAC. It’s a great way to spend a few hours!
Q: For someone new to the Nut Market, what's one product you'd recommend they try?
Our chocolate-coated pretzels are a local favourite. We go through over 300kg a month! They’re made by a chocolatier I discovered in Melbourne who makes them better than anyone.
